Contributor Notes

Joachim C. Häberlen is Assistant Professor of Modern Continental European History at the University of Warwick. His PhD (University of Chicago, 2011) explored the role of trust and distrust in everyday politics in the German and French working-class movements during the 1930s. His current research explores the politics of emotions in the West German alternative left during the 1970s. Besides his academic work, he has been actively involved in supporting refugees in Berlin since September 2015. He is working on a book manuscript about these experiences, provisionally entitled Wie aus Fremden Freude werden. He has also published an online commentary about what was happening in Berlin, and why this gives reason to feel both humility and optimism, see
